Awareness March to Combat Child Marriage

Sidlaghatta : On Wednesday, a community awareness march was held in Sidlaghatta taluk to address the issue of child marriage, which has long been a pressing social problem in India. Various officials and staff from different departments, such as the taluk administration, taluk panchayat, women and child development department, and health department, collaborated with multiple organizations for this initiative.

During the event, Tehsildar B.N. Swami highlighted that preventing child marriage is not solely the responsibility of concerned department officials and staff. Instead, it requires cooperation from the public to effectively tackle this social issue. Marrying off girls before they reach puberty can lead to adverse health effects and increased mortality rates for both mothers and children. Thus, it is essential for everyone to work towards preventing child marriage.

To raise awareness about the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, Asha workers, health workers, and other participants actively participated in the march. TAPM EO G. Muniraja also emphasized the importance of providing quality education to girls, as it can offer numerous opportunities to shape their lives. He urged everyone to refrain from marrying girls before they turn 18 and to report any child marriage attempts to the free child helpline number 112.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Municipal Commissioner R. Srikanth, Grade 2 Tehsildar Srinivasalunaidu, Health Inspectors Devaraj and Lokesh, and members of the Child Rights Organization Nagasinha G. Rao, Kantaraj, and T. Venkatesh. Overall, the march aimed to educate and engage the community in the fight against child marriage and promote the importance of protecting children’s rights.
